t I WHAT STAR HAWK AND HIS STABLE MATES WON FOR MR. MAC0MBER THIS YEAR Mr. A. K. Macomber was a popular figure on the American turf in 1910. His lavish expenditure for English-bed horses at once drew attention to him and Star Hawks capital race for the Kentucky Derby seemed to presage a quick return for his enterprise. Yet the turf year was well advanced before he won a race, the rounds of applause that quickly followed, showing that the racing public had kept an intelligent and sympathetic eye on his theretofore bad luck. That was the turning point. Subsequently his horses scored so frequently that his stable earnings mounted to quite respectable figures. His purchase of Dodge, Boots and Ed Crump, together with the probability that his young English horses will by that time be thoroughly acclimatized, seems to assure that his stable of 1917 will be one of the most formidable in the land. These horses were bought late in the racing year and so did not start often in his colors. The record of his stable was: , Horse. Col. and Sex. A. Pedigree. 1st. 2d. 3d. Won.
