WINDSOR JOCKEY CLUB SUED. Action Arising Through Refusal to Pay on Winning Mutuel Ticket That Was Detroyed. Windsor, Ont., December IS. Seeking to recover 1916.sh33, which amount it is alleged is due on a pari-mutuel ticket purchased at a meeting of the Windsor Jockey Club, August le Gentenaar, manager of the East End Coal and Cinder Supply company, llol-combe avenue. Detroit, has through his attorney. Barrister F. C. Kerby, caused a writ to be served on the Windsor Jockey Club. De Gentenaar and his friend, Joseph Vande Weglie, vice-president of the Standard Lumber company. Detroit, bought two straight tickets on Ophelia W. in the fourth race at the Windsor track, August IS. Auriga, with Robinson up., won the race, but was disqualified when it was discovered that Robinson rode under weight. When Aurigas number appeared on the official board as the winner of the race, De Gentenaar and Vande Weghe threw away their Ophelia W. tickets in disgust, only to find a few minutes later that their choice, which had finished second to Auriga, had been declared the winner. Then followed a frenzied hunt for the cardboards. Vande Weglie recovered his, but De Gentenaar was not so fortunate. A claim was made, however, but the Windsor Jockey Club refused to settle, although it is said only two 5 straight tickets were sold on the race. The claim will be settled at the next session of the Essex County Court.
