KENTUCKYS TUEF QUEEN. Of all the fillies that have been developed in late years in Kentucky Kathleen, a Sempronius filly, is the best, says a writer in the Memphis Commercial Appeal. She lias earned a niche in the hall of fame along with Yo Tambien, which years ago was crowned as queen of the thoroughbred world, and Regret, the only filly that ever won a Kentucky Derby. Kathleen was bred by George- J. Long, one of Kentuckys cleanest sportsmen. She won the Kentucky Oaks last spring from a great field and, since then, has taken the measure of all the cracks she has met from any distance from three-quarters to a mile and a sixteenth. While at Saratoga she was not at her best and was beaten, but in the fall she came to herself and, from then on, there was not a sprinter in the west to take her measure, including the sensational Hank ODay. Mr. Long may race her another season and then he will retire her to the stud. Kathleen started eleven times during the summer and fall season, won nine times and was second twice. She won .1,028 during the year.
