CURRENT NOTES OF THE TURF. The Christmas day storm at Juarez track did ,000 damage to stables. Horsemen were in a panic for a time, thinking a cyclone was coming. Murphys performance at Havana Wednesday not merely was the fastest three-quarters of the winter at that track, but was noteworthy because of the clear-cut defeat of Droll. Jockev Clavcr. who lias been spending the Christmas season in Chicago, will go to Charleston. S. C. to do the work for trainer "Puddiu" McDaniel and the Browne stable of horses. John Rathbone of Garland, Mont., has recently purchased the imnorted horse, Don Juan Fernandez, brown, 1901. by the English Derby winner Donovan mare by Robinson Crusoe, and will place him in the stud. The following notice was posted at the Juarez track Wednesday: "Notice to owners Until further notice, in all selling races, beaten horses will not be subject to claim unless it is so specified m the conditions of the race." H. Eugene Leigh lias leased his place in France to jockey Frank ONeill, and, after the holidays, will return to America, and next year race a stable of his own on American tracks. Mr. Leigh when in America was popular and a good horseman, would give as much for a horse as anybody, and owned many good ones.
