PUNISHMENTS GIVEN TURF OFFENDERS. Big List of Suspensions Awarded Riders, Owners and Horses for Violating the Rules of Racing. The list of suspensions of men and horses in the racing campaign of MM is a long one. suggesting strict vigilance on the part of racing officials, or a more than ordinary measure of violations or evasions of racing rules. As a matter of course, the great majority of the cases calling for official discipline, were for minor offenses and expiated by slight periods of retirement from active participation in racing. But here and there were cases grave enough to call for the extreme rigor of turf law, in the way of complete ruling off. Turf law is not usually vindictive and it will bo found, on investigation, that few ruled off persons fail to eventually secure reinstatement. Following is the record of punishments, large and small, inflicted in MM, together with a statement of the nature of the offenses: Suspensions of Jockeys. C. Turner -Ruled off January 22.
