t f BIG ARRAY OF SELLING PLATERS WHICH GAVE H. G. BED-WELL FIRST PLACE AMONG WINNING OWNERS + + It required the close of the year to determine who was to be the leading money-winning owner of ISM. With the close of what is held to be the legitimate racing season, the stables of K. T. Wilson and A. Belmont were sent into winter quarters, Mr. Wilson being then the leader, with Mr. Belmont second and H. G. Bedwell third. The latter, however, did not send his horses into retirement, but kept them busily engaged in racing until, right in the closing hours of the year, lie won at Havana a purse that enabled him to pass the two leaders and clinch the honors of the year for himself. This result he achieved through the agency of the enormous total of fifty-two horses raced in his colors in the course of the year. Of these only the two-year-old Manokin and the four-year-old Sir Edgar were something better than the average selling plater. These i:nd all the others were driven relentlessly wherever an opportunity to win a purse offered, so that it was as the result of 130 firsts and 210 places that Bedwell finally registered the triumph of his life.
