DULL M AT NEW ORLEANS DISAGREEABLE WEATHER AND TRACK CONDITIONS AGAIN MAR THE SPORT. Stolen Ante an Easy Victor Over El Pato — Ornery Wins for the Talbott Stable — Watch Your Step Scores at Long Odds. New Orleans. La.. January 19. — Todays ordinary card, a bad track and threatening weather, were again conditions that operated against the racing. All the dashes were won in hollow fashion and with a sameness that left nothing to enthuse over. Betting activities were again considerably curtailed, with honors resting with the backers at the close of proceedings, as most of the winners were extensively backed. There was nothing on the program that could warrant calling it a feature. The mile race, fourth on the card, probably brought out the best field and it resulted in victory for Stolen Ante, which in a preceding effort had ran a creditable race. At that his success was of the fluke order, despite his e -tiling easy win. for had the rider been more experienced he would probably have landed El Pato in front. He used the horse up in the first three-quarters, in establishing a long lead, and this found him exhausted when challenged by the winner. The J. O. Talbott stable continues its success with the Whitney-bred youngsters that A. S. Top-ton brought here. Bracelet, from the establishment, graduated from the maiden ranks when she scurried home in advance of Anna J. and Nnpoli. Lu-cile I. repeated a former good victory and proved much the liest of those starting in the second race. Bin ■ Grass Belle, in this, was regardeel highly, and might have been a contender but for being virtually left because of propping when the barrier was released. Watch Your Step furnished an upset in the third race when she outstayed Running Queen, with the favorite Energetic failing to get a place. Minda was the choice in the fifth race and she was an easy winner from Prime Mover. T. McTag-gart came into the- limelight in the two closing dashes by piloting Yalas and Billie Baker, respectively to victory. The last named was the medium for extensive support from the smart set. Jockey F. Robinson was again an absentee from the saddle on account of suffering from a severe cold. Jockey Dursch had to cancel his engagements for the afternoon because of being threatened with appendicitis. Matin was excused from starting in the second race on account of illness. C. J. Casey has received an addition to his stable, by the arrival of the English Wormleigliton. a fast five-year-old sprinter by Sir" Archibald, that Hugh Grant Browne bought recently. Supervisor I. B. Bennyson was back at his post this afternoon, having returned from Baton Rouge, where he attended a conference of the State Fair secritaries. Danny Miller has signed a contract to train the horses of E. J. Arnold in the coming racing season and will shortly leave for Lexington to take charge of the racers.
