NO MENTION OF NEW TRACK TAXATION. Provincial Treasurer Touches Upon Subject of Racing Throughout Canada. In his budget speech in the Legislature on Thursday Hon. Mr. Mi-Garry made no mention of any now taxation for the- coming year, from which it has been eleduceel that there will be no increase in t lie-daily license foe for Ontario race courses. That is now ,250, or more than six times the amount ool-leote-el when the tax was originally imposed. It had been commonly reported that still aiiothe-r in crease was contemplated by tin- Provincial Treasurer, and a figure was current that would have been beyond the capacity of the half-mile tracks, at least, to meet and continue in business. While it. is still within tin- bounds of procedure in such matters to establish a new figure for the fee. it would seem that the- treasurer is content witli the existing regulations in that respe-et, as h - stated that the amusement and corporation taxes were working out quite equal to the expectations formed when they were fixeel last year. The inference that they will so remain for the present is. therefore, a fair one. The total amounts paid into the public: coffers from such source-s will appe-ar in the usual statement of the public accounts and will no doubt be found to justify Mr. MeGarrys satisfae tion with their results. Other inatte-rs of interest in connection with racing were touched on Friday in the form of aaaa-tteM to be addressed to the ministry for the purposes of information. Mr. Sam Carter South Wellington wants to know about the ine-reases in the capital stock of the Ontario and Hamilton Jockey Clubs. Mr. L. P. Wigle South Essex, in whose constituency Winelsor is situated, has put in a ree|uest that may produce some interesting eieve-lopments. lie is asking the government of Ontario or officials thereeef and the Devonshire Iliic-e Track Company at Windsor, anil, in particular, the correspondence between J. T. White, solicitor of the Department of the Provincial Treasurer, and Dr. Keauine. — Toronto Globe.
