MANY STAKES TO CLOSE FOR ENTRIES. Rich Races Proffered by the Douglas Park, Latonia and Empire City Jockey Clubs. This is an important day in horsedom. for the reason thai its midnight brings about the closing for entries in twenty-eight stake races, to be run next spring and summer and one to be run in 1919. the latter being the highly important and happily conceived Latonia Championship Stakes and of the others thirteen are to be run in the west at Douglas Park and Latonia. leaving fifteen to be disposed of in the course of the Empire City meeting next July. In all this there is involved a big aggregate of money to be won by lucky owners, through the speed and endurance of their horses. In point of value the Kentucky Handicap and the Latonia Derby are the headliners, each having an endowment of 0,000 added and ranking among the lending stake races of the country. The others. one and all. are well worth winning and any owner of a sufficiently good horse, who has neglected entering it in some of these tempting events, has been remiss in looking out for his own interests. It is not too late to remedy such an oversight. but pretty near it. Entries mailed before midnight of this day would be in time. The Douglas Park stakes are the Kentucky Handicap. Memorial Handicap. Spring Trial Stakes and Speculation Stakes. Aside from the Latonia Championship, the Latonia offerings are the Latonia Derby. Inaugural Handicap. Clipsetta Stakes, Merchants Silling Stakes. Harold Stakes, Quickstep Handicap. Valuation Stakes. Independence Handicap and Cincinnati Trophy. For both tracks entries are to be mailed to General Manager John Hai hmeister. Knickerbocker Handicap. Tarrytown Sidling Stakes. Whirl Stakes, East View Stakes, Wakefield Handicap, Demoiselle Stakes. Frivolity Selling Stakes and Sprightful Selling Stakes.
