SOME KENTUCKY DERBY OUTSIDERS. Guy Fortune, Star Finch and Others Not in the First Flight In Robust Health. P.y C. A. Iterginl. Louisville. Ky.. March 7. — There is hardly a stable BOW ill training at either Churchill Downs or Douglas Park in this city that cannot boast of at least oae Keiitue-ky Derby eligible, and quite a number an lay claim to two or more. The Oorrigan ami McKinni-y and John W. Schorr establishments each • mbrace five Derby colts that are being prepared ;or the rich prize to be run on the afteraooa of May 12. while tin re are no less than six other -t ibles thai each have- two of the ca;nlidat"s to the big race. The stable of Miildleton and Jones, owned by two well known racing ssea of Louisville, enjoys the distinction of being the only one owning three of tie- eliglbles, these being Gay Fortune. Gallant Lad and I e Lend. This trio comprises part of the stable that the ret -ran trainee Dan Lehan is training at Churchill Downs for Mid ill ti n «...- Jeoaea. The remainder el the string constats of the four-year-old Lady Always, five threi -. ir olds and four highly-bred two-year-olds. Lehan haa been training horses for over twenty-five years, and has saddled many winners in that time. Including quite a aaasber of st ike wtanera. He is known as a BSOst capable Bad e-onscientious conditioner of horses and never sends a horse to the post unlc-.s he is fit and ready to run his best. Fnder his watchful eye his three Derby charges !:iv ■ wintered extie-mcly well, and have entered upon their early spring training in a manner that st satisfactory. With tln-ie strings to his bow. Mr. Lilian believi ■ he has more than an outside chance to carry off this years Derby for his employers. At present he has not decided which . ae of the COltS WiU a.t as i.;v stables standard bearer in tie big race, alt hough all of them are betas prepared with a view of entering the e-en-te-st. Tine- and the manner in wliie-h they stand up under training will decided which colt will be -eiected. Guy Fortune Kay Bo in Derby Field. At present Guy Fortune, a die -stunt colt by Trans-raal fl fills, appears to be most favored by the stable connections. He- showed immeasurably better form as a two-year-old than did his stable mates, having scored a victory in the Juvenile Stakes aad i ne other race at the Downs last spring. De-Land aad Gallant Lad started several times last year, but neither succeeded in scoring a victory. However, both have developed wonderfully, and if appearances count for anything, they are due to show improve ni-nt in thdr three-yeur-ohl Stage. Gay Fortune has also grown into a splendid-looking animal and appears to eve-ii better aelvantage thaa eitbee of his stable companions.
