EMIL HERZ PLEASED WITH SHORT GRASS. New York. March 7. — "Short Crass looked so e good I could scarcely restrain myself from ordering him shipped back to the rest of the stable to be trained for this years races," said Emil Herz Monday, after having returned from a visit to t Lexington to see his great horse. "He has put t on thirty -five pounds in weight and looks better than I ever saw him." The big son of Laveno — Outburst. is new in the Idle Hour Stud of E. R. Bradley, in charge of Barry Shannon, and his owner was in Kentucky in the hopes of buying some good mares with which j to mate him. He was particularly anxious to . purchase three or lour Star Shoot marcs. Bad while he was prepared to pay a liberal price, he was 1S unable to close any deals. However, he reports that hi- had many offers S of mares on contracts and other proposals for ,r breeding and has a total of about fifty pedigrees, "■j which he is looking into. It is his desire to find suitable mates for his stallion, and will not take _ more than twenty for the first ye:ir. .
