MANY UPSETS AT OAKLAWN FAVORITES PROVE DECEITFUL AND OUTSIDERS CARRY AWAY THE SPOILS. Speady Marie Miller Is an Exception and Runs a Fast Race — Rose Juliette in Second Place Again — Gossip of the Course. Hot Springs. Ark.. March 2C — Exquisite weather was ogam on tup in these parts and it resulted in bringing to the track another imme-nse attendance to witness the decision of six races. The outstanding feature- was a handicap at five and a half futlones, which brought out six good sprinters and furnished a victory for H. S. Newmans gooel three-year-old filly Marie Miller, with Cane Run leading the others in second place and David Craig just getting up under hard urging to beat Prince of COSBO. The winner made the fastest time for five and a half furlongs of tin- meeting when she cover -d the- distance in l:0ti-f,. This is within one-fifth of a second of the mark made by The Bear, tin- track record holder. The hard drubbing that some of the- layers experi-ene-ed last Satureliy caused a thinning in their ranks, only thirty three- being in line this afternoon. Toe ■peculation continued of large proportions. Tlie racing was interesting in the main, though ordinary fields contested in most of the dashes. Violet was given the call in the opener, but the heat she could do was to land see-md place. Ben Hampseai was an overwhe-lining choice in the second, but he failed to race to a place-. Wat winning as his rider pleased, after suffering from some- of the considerable interference that oe-curre-d in the race. Inelc Jimmie was given most consideration in the third, but hi" was a distant follower at tin- wind lip, Matter winning easily. Rose Juliette was the preferred one- in the fifth race-, but Tactless was in a running m id this afternoon and, heading the others on the stretch turn, won comfortably. Johnson and Billings Horses Go to Louisville April 10. The Johnson and Billings division of racers here in charge of C. T. Patterson, ale destined for shipment to Louisville. April 10.
