MORE LAT0NIA CHAMPIONSHIP ENTRIES. List from Abroad Received with Sir John Robinsons and J. D. Cohns Included. Cincinnati. O.. April 7. -Running the gauntlet of the submarine lionts. the Knglish and Fr pch entries to the *.-.0.000 Lataasa Championship Stakes, to lie run in the autumn «.f 1919. have arrived. Through the efforts of the British Bloodstock Agency alone, twenty-two entries were secured and others were made individually. W. S. Heather sent in nine an.L Jefferson Davis Colin, an Knglishinan. who races M Frame, sent in five by tie- best French stallions. » Four of those secured from Kngland are by the cclcbraled horse The Tetraroh. while the others are by the best stallions in Great Britain. This makes every stallion of note in the Cnited States. France and Kngland represented in the event. Despite his name. Jefferson Davis Colin, who entered five from France, is an Knglishinan. He is a godson of the late President of the Confederate states. After the suppression of the Rebellion. Jeff Davis went to Kngland to live and while there was a gii-st of Cohns father. It was while visiting the Cohns that young Colin was born and Davis was his godfather. Colin is referred to as the man who saved racing in France. He is enormously wealthy and when French breeders w-re tiying to dispose of their stock, he stepped in and purchased right and left. Just three months he-fore the war began. Colin leased the famous Chamant stud near Chant illy. Years ago M. L ■-fevre lavished a fortune upon the place and far fourteen years after his death it laid idle, no breeder believing that the place could be profitably maintained. Colin, who had been racing successfully in Franco for some time, leased the farm, spent J0.MM1 an. I then came the war an I the Cermans. who overran the place, taking all the horses and cattle. Colin undaunted, stepped iii at. I purchased more horses and started another breeding establishment. Iist summer he shipped some horses to San ftrkaatll ■ in Spain, where a race meeting was beM and won nearly every race in which his horses started. His horse, created su.h a furor- among the Spaniard-; that many of them immediately purchased French-bred horses. Cohns chief competitor at the meeting was the King of Spain, who raced his horses under the name of the Duke of Toledo. Believes S57 in Cablegrams to France Well Spent. Manager Hachmcister spent S."i7 sending a cablegram to France appraising Cohn of the Latoiiia Championship Stakes, giving the conditions anil an estimate of the stakes worth, and was rewarded by Cohn nominating five of his eatta to the event. !L chine isfer now believes the X..7 was well spent. Cohn was recently .piotcd as saying that France atrered greater opportunities for breeders than any other country in which there is racing. In every stake race in France the br lent of the winner receives ten per cent of the first money and the establishment srhieh is able to tun t a few g I horses each year, does not have to race them to secure a return on its investment. The nine entries made by W. S. Heath, r were not in. lulled in the list of oiginal entries sent ant, and this makes a grand total of 170 received to the La tonia Championship Stakes.
