CURRENT NOTES OF THE TURF. J. D. Mam, father of trainer George Odom. died Friday at the home of his son in New York. Mr. Odom was 77 years old and a native of Columbus, Ga. John E. Madden is said to be anxious to join the officers reserve corps. Mr. Madden is more than fifty years old. but is still an athlete. His son i: Iw.inl. 21 years old, has already joined the army. The United Hunts meeting Saturday attracted bv far the biggest gathering that yet has attended any of the races under the direction of the United Hunts. This was quite a surprise, in view of the fact that there were no stands heeanae of the recent fire. Saturday at the United Hunts meeting was a day of triumph for Mrs. Bay lie Whitney, who owns the Gre.-ntree Stable. Her horses accoiint-d for three of the six races. In the first race she won with Nenuphar, and later Cherry Malotte and Al Reeves, Jumpers, also scored well earned victories. Mrs. Whitneys successes were truly popular. The feature of Beta t Terminals racing of Saturday was the first half of the United Hunts Double Event, a two mile steeplechase, for four year olds and over. The second half, at three miles, will be run at the autumn meeting. There were seven subscribers at ,000 each am! the winner Saturdav, Cherry Malotte, received 88,008 and 00 in plate
