CURRENT NOTES OF THE TURF. The race mare Smash, owned by Mr. John L. Charles, of Toronto, died a few days ago at Toronto. The management of the Back Itiver Jockey Club has arranged for a special car to be run daily from the Dorval track to Mount Royal Park during the race meeting at the latter place, to accommodate those owners unable to secure stabling at Mount Royal. Valas. the five year-old gelding that won five races at the New Orleans meeting, was so seriously burned in the fire which destroyed the stables of Mr. E. Fred at Plainfield, N. J., that it was fonnd necessary to destroy him. Mr. Fred carried a Hartford policy for ,000 on this good horse, taken through General Agent John A. Payne, of CtBciuoatt.
