TROXXERS GOOD RIDING IN WHIRL STAKES. After the running of the Whirl Stakes at Empire Cily last Saturday, which was won by Papp, with Troxler in the saddle, an old turfman called attention to the masterly ride the veteran jockey gave the Loft colt and said it reminded him of the days when Troxler first made the racing public sit up and take notice years ago at New Orleans. 1 "The jockeys who are riding now do not ride like the old-timers." he said. "Now look at the race Troxler rode just now. He began well with the others and then used the colts early speed to get out of the bunch where he could pick his going Then, having headed the others, he did not race away from them as the jockeys of to-day do, but he waited in front and was in no hurry as long as he found he could hold command. In that way he saved the big colt, instead of letting him race himself to exhaustion when there was no need of it When Ultima Tliule made his final and gallant effort in the last sixteenth Papp, because of Judiq ioua handling, had enough left to withstand the""" Wickliffe colts Inst bid for the lead. 4It the jockeys who are coming out now would only use their heads as the boys of the Troxler school used to there would bo better riding and we, should not see the best horse beaten as often as we do-now."
