NEW PADDOCK AT LATONIA. Will Be Completed for Fall Meeting Mutuel Shed Being. Enlarged. . , . . . Covington, Ky., Aug. 14. The Latonia Jockey. Club is making extensive improvements at its: beautiful plant and will have them completed for the fall meeting. , , A handsome hew paddock, to the east of, , the racing secretarys office, is being erected. The entire mutuel office has been torn out, and . the, betting shed will be extended by using the old paddock, which will make a wonderful building for such a purpose. To use the paddock It is necessary to lower the level of the old paddock. Beginning at. the head of the stretch and running to the clubhouse a hew fence dividing the race track and the lawn will be erected, the new fence encroaching ten feet on the race track. At first glance this would, look like the home stretch is going to- be too harrow, but there , is ample room there for the horses, for only1 twelve horses are permitted to start outside of stake races. Tills will give the spectators more room In which to move about. With the addition of the old paifdock its ffart of the betting shed, a battery or rather a regiment of mutuel machines will be in operation. Fifty-five machines will be clicking there on the big days and fifty-five cashier windows will be open to pay the holders of the winning tickets. These improvements will easily make Latonia rank with the most pretentious in the country. The meeting in the fall is bound to be one of the greatest ever held at that time of the year. Over 50,000 w illbe paid out to horsemen, and the indications are that every horse in fit condition to run will have a grand chance to earn some money for Ills owner. Reports from Saratoga are that many Eastern stables are coining here. Canadian stables are bound to jump down here and attempt to share In the splendid offerings and the hardboots will be right in their element. Horsemen who fail to enter liberally in these stake races are overlooking a great chance.
