EXPECTS TO RACE AGAIN IN AMERICA. Clarence H. Mackay Will Be Represented by High-Class Horses After Close of War. I Saratoga, N. Y., Aug. 14. Clarence II. Mackay, fewho has not raced in this country for about fifteen r.vears, but is still a breeder of thoroughbreds in France, came to Saratoga last week for the yearling sales. Mr. Mackay said that the reason he is not racing is that lie has too much in the way of business to attend to to enable him to get any enjoyment out of cimpaigniiig a stable of runners. "And," he declared, "there is small chance that I shall be able to get any recreation until some time after the conclusion of the war. Ultimately, however, I expect to have some high-class horses running in the United States. "Meanwhile I shall keep right on breeding yearlings in France and bringing them to this country for sale. I do not intend to bring any save yearlings of the highest quality, and these importations of mine will help rebuild the American thoroughbred Industry. Just now I am breeding mainly to i Fitz Herbert. I .have heard it said that Fitz Herbert is not a .success. Perhaps he isnt so far But he is going to have every chance to make good. No Better Kajcq, Horse Than Fitz Herbert. Probably there has, been no better race horse than litz Herlwrt in any country in twentv-five or thirty years. If he had made in England or France the reputation for speed and endurance he made in the United States, 00,000 or 50,000 would not have bought "Fitz Ilerbert is a splendid individual, of "perfect bone and muscular development and good temper and he is a uniform breeder. Moreover, he stamps his offspring with his own impress." Many of the mares of Mr. Mackays stud in trance are of American stock. They belonged to the stud he maintained iu Kentucky for many years under the management of Charles Hill. These mares along with the stallion Meddler, were transferred to France seven years ago. While Mr. Mackay is favoring Fitz Herbert, which he purchase1 in I ranee from ,tlie estate of th.e,14te :Charles Kohler he is not1 WnfinihTiis, iareV wholly to that stallion. He sends such as he selects for outside matings to the best stock horses ia Frauce.
