■ 4. _ J. I f STATISTICS OF SOUTHERN MARYLAND AGRICULTURAL ASS0- I CIATIONS SPRING MEETING AT BOWIE I I * _ . — _ _ + The Southern Maryland Agricultural Associations spring meeting began at Howie. April 1. and came to a close April 13. embracing twelve racing days, during which time eighty -four races were decided and 2,215 distributed in purses. The daily average distribution amounted to ,351. The fields at Howie were exceptionally small and made up of the cheaper grade of racers. The failure of the association to provide stake features kept the better class of horses in their stables and the inclement weather of the past week was responsible for reducing the size of the fields. The attendance, however, was of goodly proportions considering the disagreeable weather encountered. James Arthur and E. T. Zollicoffer tied for the leading honors among the owners, each having ,325 to his credit. The following is a list of the owners with stable winnings of 50 or more each to his credit: Owner. 1st. 2d. 3d. Amt. Arthur. J 4 4 2 ,325 Zollicoffer. E. T 4 3 O 2.325 Francis, T 3 4 2 1,850 Zimmer.
