TURF NOTES FROM LANDS ABROAD The American horse Toiler, having broken down, has been destroyed. He was a ten-year-old horse, by Slave— Phida. bred by J. B. Haggin. and at one time ranked among the best hurdle racers iu England. The death is announced, at Chantilly. at the age of 67, of Thomas Carter, the doyen of French trainers. The deceased, who prepared many important winners iu his time, was located at Newmarket in his early days. M. Edmund Blanc, the famous French breeder and owner of thoroughbreds, has been apiminted commissary to the Societe Sportive dEiicouragement. with siiecial reference to all concerned with the race course at St. Cloud,
