BELMONT PARK HORSES IN GOOD WORK War Cloud Covers a Mile and an Eighth in Excellent Style — Other Gallops. New York. April SkV — Outside of a good work by War Cloud nothing of real iui| ortance occurred at the Belmont Park track this morning in the way if early preparation. .Mr. Jennings had his Kentucky Derby candidate out pretty early and he put in a pleasing mile and an eighth. War Cloud covered the first half mile in 4S- ,. the three-quarters in 1:13.. the mile in 1:41 and pulled up the mile and an eighth in l:.Vi. lSuxton was in the saddle and there was no part of the gallop that the horse -mild not have improved on the time had he been asked. The last three -eighths wen- slow. Paddy, the sprinter from the Macoinber stable, joined War Cloud five-eighths from the finish, the pair being clos a together from tlier- on. Jennings also had Hand Crciiade and Suiiboiuiet out for a three-quarters slow work, tie- two covering the route in 1:18. Samuel Hildreth is taking matters easily with Major Belmont V star horses ami not rushing them to forward condition. Liaullite and Stromboli, as usual, came out together ami worked a mile and an eighth in 2:»2~.. the tort mile in 1:47. It Was all that was asketl of them, hut both are ready for hard lalsir when called on. Hourless did about the same kind of work. There is no question now that i.uciillite and Ilourl ss will lie seen at Pimlico and iHissibly one or two others from Major Belmonts barn. Thomas Healey is giving the K. T. Wilson horses steady work. Campfire and Corn Tassel are a team always working together. They cantered a mil" in 1:47t-. and both are ready for a strenuous exercise. Straight Forward and He Will worked together. They were sent three-quarters only in about l:il. It will not be at all surprising to see Campfire again a factor in the Tnlmggau Handicap, which he won last year in a fast field of sprinters. SCHOOLING TWO-YEAB-OLDS. While there are some promising two-year-olds in training at Belmont Park, none of them have been observed to show exceptional speed in the way of a trial, excepting for an eightn or two. Most of •join are confined to schooling operation*, but many .ire ready for fast work. Trainer Kurrick had his whale -table of youngsters at the barrier today. Karriek is one of those trainers who believes in proficiency at the harrier. Ambioso Clark will send about four horses to Pimlico with the Welch consignment of the J. D. Widener horses. Quite a few stake candidates and two-year olds will tie shipiied to Pimlico this week from different stables. Contractors are already on the Belmont Park grounds with material for building hangars for government aeroplanes to carry mail. Belmont Park has lieen donated as one of the stations for • ascending and alighting of the mail birds. The si rvicc will be in operation at an early date, as the hangars will lie completed in short order, all the material being cut and shaped for assembly. It is highly probable that John Hallenbeek. son of H. C. Hallenheck. who tlied recently, -will continue to rare the twenty-one horses now in the hands of Frank Taylor. Col. William Scully, one of the old -school horsemen and trainers, is seriou-ly ill in the Long I -land Hosoit.,1. Krookljn. He has been failirg for tin-past year or tVo.
