i i ■ i i RACING STATISTICS OF THE MOST SUCCESSFUL MEETING IN TEE HISTORY OF THE DOUGLAS PARK JOCKEY CLUB The sprint: meeting of the Douglas Park Jockey Club began on May 27 and came to an end on June 11. embracing fourteen racing days, during which time ninety-eight races were run and 08,355 distributed in stakes and purses. The daily average distribution amounted to ,739. From every standpoint this was the greatest meeting ever held at Douglas Park. The attendance exceeded the most sanguine anticipations of the management, the crowd on Kentucky Handicap day being, according to Gen-ral Manager Johu Haclimeister. the largest that ever witnessed the sjairt at that course. The volume of specula -tion was in keeping with the general record-breaking conditions that prevailed. Hie racing itself was of a high standard, sparkling with contests between well-seasoned and high-class horses. Sensationally fast time was recorded in a number of the races, due in a great measure to the wonderfully improved condition of the course. A new American record for a mile and seventy yards was hung up when Pif Jr. ran the distance in 1:41% on May 29. Cudgels victory in the Kentucky Handicap, in which the great Broomstick colt picked up 132 pounds and decisively beat high-class opposition, was the outstanding feature in a racing way of this grand meeting. , 1 | | ; j ] ] | ; • I • : J.
