I ! SALE OF JOHN E. MADDEN YEARLINGS Twenty-Six Choicely-Bred Youngsters to Be Sold at Durlands Riding Academy June 18. The first important sale of yearlings in New York wil! bo conducted by the Powers-Hunter Company at Durlands the night of June IS, with Col. George Bain as auctioneer. The yearling sales of the year will he pro|H*rly launched when the consignment that is to be offered are sent to the sale ring by John E. Madden, the most extensive and at the same time most successful of thoroughbred breeders in the countrv. In all twenty-six an* to go under the hammer and it is noteworthy that twenty-three of them are colts, while there are eleven different sires represented in the catalogue. These sires are Celt, Wrack. Ballot. All Gold, Hessian. Sea King, Trap Rock, Assagai, Disguise. Delhi and Colin. Then there is to be features to the sale that will he altogether out of the ordinary, when John E. McBowman will lie the auctioneer for one of the yearlings to be selected and the proceeds of that particular sale will be presented to Mrs. August Belmont for the Red Cross fund. Later in the sale Robert Hilliard will sell a brown filly by the unbeaten Colin — Idle Fancy for the benefit of the New York Sun tobacco fund for the boys in France. Idle Fancy, the dam of this one. is a sister to Trance, some years back one of the most remarkable sprinters of her day and it is a sure tiling that the tobacco fund will be liberally swelled before she is knocked down to the successful bidder. Sweet Lavender, a stake winner as a two and throe-year-old. is the dam of the Toronto Cup winner Rancher. Sweet Alyssum, the South African winner Reina del Persia, etc. Chestnut colt, bv Ballot— Gracilla. C.racilln won as a two-year-old, five eighths in 1:00%. three-quarters in 1:12%. and is a sister to De Mund. Brown oolt, by imp. All Gold— Cnmask.
