PORTERS FIRST VICTORY « Oklahoma Oil Magnate Scores His Initial Turf Success. ♦ My Friend Wins Rosedale Stakes for Him — Compadre First in Richmond Handicap. ♦ New York, June IS. — Henry A. Porter, the Tulsa. Oklahoma, oil magnate, saw his colors flashed to victory for tin- first time, when his Disguise-Playmate filly My Friend won the twelfth running the itosedale Stakes. With the withdrawal of Elfin Queen, considered to be the star filly of the *cas-m. interest narrowed to Kiss Again and Aunt Dinah. My Friend was the medium of good backing from the sharpshooters, with the result that the oralizers were forced to rub from eight down to five. When the start came, the Coe filly propped and was left far back in the running. My Friend was rushed into the lead in the first eighth and was soon joined by Lady Rosebud, which showed marked improvement. Aimt Dinah, which was third, came wide when turning into the stretch, but closed up rapidly. The leaders margin proved loo much for the Houseman delegate and she just failed t get up. The Rosedale Stakes was first run in 1903 and its history in condensed form is as follows: Year. Winner. Wt. Jockey. Val. Time. 1903 Julia M 107 II. Co hran..775 1:01--, 1904 Sua. Bocamora...l09 G. The Quincy Stables Compadre displayed sensational speed in winning the Richmond Highweight Handicap, which came fifth on the card. The winner ran the distance of five and a half furlongs in 1:05%. which was within one-fifth of a second of the track record, made by Pan Zareta last year. Compadre sprinted into a long early lead and maintained his advantage to the end, gamely withstanding Kalitans challenge in the final eighth. WINNER FOR JOHN SANF0RD. Crystal Ford, from the stable of John Sanford. led home a big hand of maiden two -year-olds in tin-opener. He was the medium of confident backing on the part of the public and easily made good, holding Dancing Carnival safe in the closing strides. The talent fared well in the second race, when they sh.iwed a preference for J. K. L. Boss Cadillac." which, after racing Elderken into defeat in the early running, drew away in the stretch and Lyke taking no chances, rode him out lo win by a safe margin. Woial Violet finished second after a good and game perf.irinance. The Jamaica track seems to suit Frederick the Great, the French-bred colt having run his liest races over it. Today, in the third race, this Fitz Herbert colt followed Empress closely for a mile. then moved to the front and easily drew away ill the stretch to win by a safe lead. Emil lierz Hnrwood II. outclassed his opposition in the closing race of the afternoon and led throughout by a wide gap to win in a canter eight lengths in advance of Bill Simmons, which finished in second place. There is an epidemic of coughing prevalent among the stables quartered at the Jamaica track Jockey "Bill Knapp leaves for Latonia on Thnrs-I day to ride Exterminator in the Latonia Derby Saturday. It was coincident that the winners of both fea-! tun races today are out of the same dam. Play-i mate. Both were bred by Messrs. Corrigan and McKinney at the Wiekliffe Stud. My Friend was sired by Disguise and Compadre by Colin. Henry McDanicl will not start Sun Briar again before the Saratoga meeting. "The colt is going along well, but Saratoga suited him last year ami we are going to give him a chance to repeat." said Mr. McDaniel. Capt. Bal Parr was a visitor today. "Just came on to see if Dr. Rae is a good colt or not." said the captain. Jefferson Livingston has a few selling platers which he is willing to dispose of reasonably. Capt. P. ML Walker came up from his Virginia farm to look over tlie Madden stock, which he bred, in the sale. "I shall have a few to sell when we get to Saratoga." said Capt. Walker. W.
