CURRENT NOTES OF THE TURF T. C. McDowell was in r -oeipt of word from his son. Lieutenant Goodlno McDowell, now somewhere in France, that he was in good health. Elfin Queen, H. K. Knapps six-edy filly, is working at Belmont Park in a manner that suggests she will be ready for the Great American Stakes the coming Saturday. Iltima Thule. for which Henry A. Porter paid ,300 at the Wickliffe Stud sale last January, is training in satisfactory iashion at Aqueduct under the careful handling of Harry Morrissey. who confidently exiiects this good two-year-old of last year to cut an important figure in the three-year old division before the season is much older. Monday Iltima Thule worked three-quarters in 1:16, displaying plenty of sliced. There were four claims made in the fifth race Tuesday at Aqueduct. Minto II.. the one that won for Cornelius Fellowes. as well as Kingfisher, were taken |,y Joseph Marrone for the Marrone Stable, and W. Stormont took Highland Lassie from II. B. Dalley. Trainer II. G. Bedwcll. fearing that there might be a claim for Cadillac, claimed the Commander Ross plater himself for ,205, though he was only entered to be sold for 1918.sh00.
