i SPLENDID CARD FOR FOURTH OF JULY Independence Handicap the Feature Attraction Valuation Stakes Nezt Saturday SaturdayCincinnati Cincinnati O July 1 The big event of this week at Lntouia will be the decision of the Independence Handicap of 200 added on Thursday and tiie Valuation Stakes of 1500 added on Saturday The national holiday is Invariably one of the big days of the Latonia meeting and a tremendous crowd second only to that of Derby day is looked for upon this occasion The nicing will be in keep ¬ ing with the importance of the occasion Racing Secretary Campbell will surround the Independence Handicap with secondary features of an attractive character and those who visit the track will have the pleasure of seeing ntcing in its best aspect The aspectThe prospective contestants of the Independence Handicap which will be run over the mile and threesixteenths course include such wellknown stars of the turf as G M Hendries Rancher J H Goodmans Hribud Voter S M Hendersons Heaver kill George J Longs Freeciitter J C Milams Capt Rees E W Moores Arriet J W Parrisshs Midway W F Poisons Huford D Raymonds Hollinger J W Schorrs Jas T Clark J S Wards FauxColTiie Franklin and Williams IJros FauxCol Tiie Independence Handicap has been a feature of Latonia nicing only since 1910 and its list of win ¬ ners is made up of such sterling performers as Pinkola Round the World Milton 15 Black Toney Prince Ilermis Dick Williams aiid the mighty Cudgel Following the custom inaugurated in recent years General Manager John Hachmeister of the Latonia Jockey Clnb will furnish a handsome silk flag for presentation to the owner of the winner winnerJ J W SCHORK WINS TROPHY TWICE TWICETliis Tliis trophy of the race was won last year anil also the year before by John W Schorr Last year Mr Schorr presented the flag which went with Cudgels victory to MaJ T C McDowell who had expressed the hope that he might win the race with Manager Waiite if for no other reason than that the flag would become his property Maj Mc ¬ Dowells desire to carry off the trophy was inten ¬ sified by the fact that his son had just jonied the colors as an officer in the army Manager Waite could do no better than finish third in the race He is an eligible again this year but it is unlikely that he will be ready to take part in the race as it is only recently that he has been at work after a considerable respite from training on ac ¬ count of sickness sicknessThe The Valuation Stakes is a five and onehalf fur ¬ longs dash with selling conditions for twoyear olds There are ninetyseven eligibles for this race and the field will come from among such likely ones as Sannings Park winner of the Spring Trial Stakes at Douglas Park Hulldoze Hrother Maclean St Bernard Colonel Livingston Uncle White Regalo Orenzo Major Parke Jago Christie Hollers Hell solar Legal Carrie Mooro and Sentimental The Valuation Stakes was established in 1913 and its roll of winners is made up of Black Toney Menlo Park Checks Walter H Pearce and Tex Foraiau
