RACE FOR STAYING HORSES Latonia Patrons Treated to An OldFashioned TwoMile Dash Diadi the Winner Because Best BestRidden Ridden Jockey Sande On Two TwoWinners Winners to Lunsfords One Latonia Ky July 12 Weather and track con ¬ ditions were anything lint favorable for good sport at the outset today but the afternoon developed interesting contests and the track which seemed likely to be heavy as a result of a hard niin dur ¬ ing the night was hi fairly good condition and con ¬ tinued to improve as the afternoon progressed A surprisingly large attendance viewed the sport and the betting was also up to the former big standard While the program as a whole held no outstanding feature still horses of fair merit made the con ¬ test in most of the dashes and the two mile nice the first of this kind this year in Kentucky held assemblageDiadi especial interest for the big assemblage Diadi was the winner of the two mile nice from Surpassing and Pit His victory was mainly due to the more intelligent ride he was given Mink clearly outgeneraling the other riders and keeping his mount more together He allowed Ituck Nail to take the lead at the outset and following him closely for the first mile and a half came away and had speed in reserve to outstay Surpassing when that racer made his challenge in the stretch Pit appeared sore when going to the post and had to be ridden hard to land in third place Jockey placeJockey Sande gained on his rival Lunsford in their interesting battle for the honors for the meeting Sande landed two of the afternoons winners and Lunsford only succeeded in scoring once his winning mount was Hncnlr in the mile and a sixteenth race in which Sun Sod ridden by Sande was thought to bo best but Hocnir led him styleThe to the finish in easy style The mile and seventy yards nice enabled J 15 Goodman to earn another pnno with liis Iribed Voter which lie claimed from K IS Bradley It marked the third victory for the horse since his transfer and like on a former occasion he beat Precious by a close margin Sande guided him in good style and wore the McDowell filly down after she seemingly was the winner Arriet landed in third place placeSandcs Sandcs other victory came astride Words o Wis ¬ dom which triumphed in the second race over Cane Run and High Gear GearEEGAIO EEGAIO A SPEEDY FILLY FILLYT T P Hayes good filly Regalo made i show of the opponents she met in the third race which was for twoyearold fillies Howard attempted to re ¬ strain her in the early running but Kegalo was so full of desire to run that she moved into a good lead just before rounding the first turn and the further she went the greater the distance she opened between herself and the others Woodpile again ran a good nice to land in second place placeGeorge George M Hendries Salvo a recent newcomer to racing proved easily best of the eleven other maidens he met in the initial nice and won easily from Silvery Light and Bob Baker BakerA A gruelling drive developed with the finish of the fourth race between Thrills and Brown Velvet The latter grouped witli others in the field fought it out in strenuous style Thrills just winning by a nose noseThose Those owners who intend shipping east are be ¬ coming worried over the lack of cars to tniusport their horses Most of them had contemplated de ¬ parture Sunday but the uncertainty of secnrini express cars is causing a delay in their plans They fully expect to reach Saratoga in time for the opening however howeverIToii IToii the termination of the Latonia meeting on Saturday Presiding Steward Charles F Price will go to his home in Louisville to spend a few days before departing for Atlantic City Jockey CityJockey J Gruber was fined S25 by the stewards for rough riding in the sixth race in which he interfered seriously with Sun God in going around the first turn The fine was imposed rather than a suspension because of the nearness of the meetings end endJ J S Wallace filled the position of clerk of the scales in the absence of W II Shelley who lias gone east to fill an official position at the Km ¬ pire City track trackSmart Smart Money which had been in the stable of 11 Trotter has been shipped to Saratoga in charge of a new trainer The ban against him growing out of the Trotter ruling has been thus auto ¬ matically removed The Trotter horses will be shipped to Louisville within a day or two
