AQUEDUCT SEASON HIGHLY SUCCESSFUL SUCCESSFULPatronage Patronage Establishes a New Eecord for Recent Years Fall Dates to Be Assigned New York July 12 The Aqueduct meeting which comes to a close today will go on record as the most successful held at that track since the re ¬ sumption of racing in 1912 The patronage has far excelled the records of recent years the quality of the sport has been of a high order and the amount of money distributed in stakes and purses has been so eminently satisfactory to horsemen that the best thoroughbreds in training have taken part in the racing racingHorses Horses have been so plentiful in fact that fields of twenty or more have been of frequent occurrence In several instances when owners who wished to enter horses could not be accommodated on the regular program President Shcvlin has put on an extra nice thereby adding a substantial amount to the money distributions This naturally has left a most satisfactory impression with horsemen sis well as with the racing public which took siich a lively interest in the sport sportThe The meeting has been successful beyond my fondest hopes declared President Shcvlin this aft ¬ ernoon It is like a return to old times and I see nothing but the greatest prosperity for the future of the snort Speaking of the extra purses given horsemen during the meeting he said saidI I shall continue to encourage the industry and sport as long as I am able to do so I believe in helping those who help me We have had to crawl along for some years in this state but now that we have attained what can be termed a solid footing we shall do all we can to build u the sport of racing to the standard it deserves in this and every other country We countryWe have had excellent racing at Aqueduct and the patrons apicar to have been well pleased or they would not have attended in sucu numbers If we have a fall meeting I intend to add some new stakes which will have sufficient value to encourage horsemen to enter liberally It is our intention to make the fall meeting as important as the one just closing closingEMPIEE EMPIEE CITY OPENS TODAY TODAYTomorrow Tomorrow the racing scene will move to James Butlers Empire City track near Yonkers where it is anticipated as great interest Will be shown as at the other meeting held around this city The in ¬ terest may be even greater as there will be a nuri ber of new horses on the grounds that have betri racing in Kentucky as well as many that have been waiting for the Yonkers track to open openWhile While it takes a trifle longer for patrons to get to Empire City the trip is a pleasant one The Empire City Handicap for which all the best handi ¬ cap horses are entered will be the feature of the initial program and it is expected a field of from ten to a dozen will be called into line by starter Cassidy Several owners arp looking at the prize with anxious ejes and while one or two of the stars of the year may not be in the list of starters there will be a sufficient number of good ones to make the event an attractive one Such horses as Roamer George Smith Kalitan Hollister Ilendrie Borrow Trompe La Mort and Ballad arc counted on to make up the field fieldSpeaking Speaking of the applications for fall dates at the local tracks Andrew Miller declared the question would be brought up at the coming meeting of the Jockey Club and its decision rendered when the several associations applying make their requests known Sufficient time will be given the applicants to send out notices of their stakes and purses said Mr Miller so that horsemen can make their fall arrangements I cannot say what dates will be granted or how long the season will be extended but you can rest assured the best will be done for everybody everybodyQuite Quite a number of stables will leave for Saratoga as soon as transportation facilities can be obtained At present there is a shortage of cars This short agehas IXMMI caused by so many owners wanting to ship at the same time Some of the stables that intend to nice only occasionally at Ycnkers will remain at Aqueduct and ship to the track by van
