RIDING STARS FOREGATHER Best American Jockeys to Com ¬ pete at Empire and Saratoga With Surplus of Talent Turf Patrons Look Forward to Un ¬ usually Formful Racing New York July IS With the close of the Ken ¬ tucky racing season and the invasion of the cast by riilers who participated in the Bourbon state meet ¬ ings the cast is rapidly aciiuiriig a surplus of jockey talent The surplus ivill be even more ap ¬ parent at Saratoga as many riders who decided to take brief vacations when Latouia closed its gates will l e on hand for a campaign at the Spa This means more interesting miring as there is always greater competition when the best riders of the country assemble at the same track trackThere There has been a dearth of jockey talent in the east since the season opened and the arrival of the Kentucky contingent is welcomed by both horsemen and turf patrons Upon numerous occasions good horses have been beaten because competent riders could not be secured and with this obstacle re ¬ moved turf enthusiasts are looking forward to a term of decidedly formfnl racing racingAmong Among the western riders who are expected to take part in the Empire City and Saratega meetings are II Lunsford E Sande D Connelly L 31 in I Molesworth J Dursch J Mooney J Grnbpr W Lilly ll Thnrber and W 3 OBricn These added to the eastern list which includes riders like V Kobinson L Lyke J Loftus W Knapp and a few others will strongly fortify that department of the sport sportOf Of the western riders Luusford Sande and Con Mlly have made especially good fliowings and their services will l e much in demand Lyke Kobinson snd Loftus are considered the best of the eastern ioiiUngeut but Loftus is on the ground having been suspended by his employer A K Macomber MacomberAnother Another addition at Saratoga will be J Butwell who has been in the service of Uncle Sam for the past few months Butwcll will ride for Wilfrid Vian and despite his extended absence from the saddle he should be in good condition after his ex ¬ perience in training camp campXearly Xearly all the riders mentioned have contract employers but their services will be available vicjever their stable connections are not repre ¬ sented in a race The fact that the weights of the stars range from 100 to 111 pounds will make things easy for horsemen and inoet any owner who has a horse good enough to win will not be handicapped by inability to secure u boy competent to pilot it to victory
