SANDE AND LUNSFORD BEST RIDERS Seen in Kentucky in Many a Year Both to Bide at the Saratoga Meeting Louisville Ky July 18 There is no doubt that Saudi and Lunsford are the two best kid riders seen in Kentucky in many a year and the question is a much mooted one as to which is the superior Jinny veteran turfmen contend that they never saw n rider the equal of Sande while an equal number say Hint Lunsford is the best they ever saw in action actionThese These two riders will be put to a real battle at Saratoga and it will be a fair test at that as they both will get plenty of mounts on the best horses racing at the Spa In Kentucky they both enjoyed the apprentice allowance of five pounds but they will lose their bus when they go east as a recently passed rule of the Jockey Club takes this allowance away from a rider after he has ridden forty winners However this will place them on equal terms again againSince Since January 1 Lunsford has won 107 races anl Sande 101 Again the latter shows hp best even though he has scored three times less than his rival as he was riding at New Orleans and Hot Springs during the months of January February and March competing with good riders while Lunsford was at Havana where the riding talent was not so good goodWhen When the year began Lunsford had it on Sando by several months in experience while the latter had his first mount on January 5 on Liberator at the Fair Grounds Sande would have graduated out of the maiden ranks right off the reel but for the fact that Liberator ran to the outside fence with him on the stretch turn losing several lengths Had Sande had more experience he would have let him finish on the outside instead of taking hini back in toward the rail thus losing more ground groundBoth Both of these riders have all or the requisites necessary to make a good jockey They are both alert at the post they make a good scat on a horse and they both can put up a strong finish either with the whip or hand riding In addition to this they both study carefully which way their mounts for the following day run best and this has helped them to no small extent extentLUNSFORD LUNSFORD WITH STRONG STABLE STABLELunsford Lunsford is a native of the Bine Grass State his home being in Covington Ky Sande hails from American Falls Idaho Kay Spence who has de ¬ veloped any number of good jockeys brought Lnns ford out while Joe Goodman developed Sande Since the first of the year both of the boys have been sold E I McLean recently purchasing Lunsfords contract while Waldo P Johnson bought Sandes Lunsford will have some powerful horses to ride at Saratoga as the McLean stable is an especially formidable one I5cn Levy will look after Sarnies engagements at the Spa SpaThere There were more arrivals from Latonia yesterday of Louisville horsemen Among them was Judge Charles F Trice who will spend a few days at hi home here preparatory to going to Atlantic City to enjoy a months vacation Dr Henry Harthill also returned home homeTwo Two old horses which have always been popular with Kentucky racegoers went through the long siege this spring without winning They are Howdy Howdy and Rrynlimah Until this year Howdy Howdy had the distinction of never leaving the Lexington track without winning at least one race but it looks as though the old campaigner is about done for Rrynlimah also seems to have gone back considerably as he met horses this spring which hi coul1 have easily beaten last year Both of these oldtimers will be rested at Lexington this summer in the hopes that they will redeem themselves when they get back to the races again againJockey Jockey Julius Durseh Pat Knebolkamps contract rider has been turned over to W J Young for th Empire City and Saratoga meetings Dursch and Knebolkamp went to New York Saturday night while the Kncbelkamp horses were sent back to Lexington for the summer in charge of trainer George Arvin ArvinEarl Earl Pool who rode Hatter Cake to victory in the Cincinnati Trophy at Latonia last Saturday was another rider who was not long in shaking the dust of Kentucky from his feet and going east George Molesworth also went to Empire City and has had several mounts in the past two days
