THINGS ARE HUMMING AT SARATOGA Turf Enthusiasts Are Arriving Daily and Many Horses Are Quartered at the Track Saratoga N Y July 20 With several hundrcA horses being given daily exercise over the Saratoga track and witli scores of racing enthusiasts already on the grounds and others arriving daily things have taken on a lively appearance at this great American racing center The outlook for a suc ¬ cessful meeting lias never been brighter and unless the unexpected happens all previous records will be shattered shatteredOne One of the most pleasing things in connection with the coming meeting is the greatly improved condi ¬ tion of the track According to owners and trainers who have been working horses over it for the past few days it is one of the fastest courses in the country and every improvement that human inge ¬ nuity could suggest has been made by superintend ¬ ent Myer it will have little business at Saratoga declared one prominent trainer after he had timed a pair from the Whitney stable in 59 and a fraction for the fiveeighths course courseIt It T Wilson president of the Saratoga Associa ¬ tion has been here for several days and was nat ¬ urally enthused over the improved condition of the track This track was entirely built over since last year Superintendent Myer dug down two feet and took out all the old top soil and clay and entirely refilled it with cw soil taken from the infield where there now is a hole for a lake With con ¬ tinuous working over harrowing and rolling he now has practically a perfect course courseTRACK TRACK NEEDS HARD RAIN RAINBest Best of all however in the way of rebuilding has been the perfect system of drainage which has been put in Sloping towards the intield there is a gut ¬ ter all the way around with an outlet every fifty feet for further drainage over into another gutter iii the infield from whence all the water is carried away from the course Just now the track is dirty and needs a real hard rain more than anything else to perfect it Tuesday was the first day that the horses were allowed to work over the new course and prior to that time the horses had been taking their work over at Horse Haven and Oklahoma From now on however there will be workouts over the new track each morning morningAmong Among the prominent stables quartered at the track are those of A K Macomber in charge of Walter Jennings J K L Ross in charge of U G Bcdwell W It Coe and the Oncck Stable in charge of William Karrick Harry Payne Whitney in charge of Tamos Rowe and Albert Simons Henry A Porter in charge of Harry Morrissey T C Mc ¬ Dowell Richard T Wilson August Belmont Wil ¬ liam Martin Edward McBride Howard Dots R L Gerry and C W Gasser GasserWord Word was received yesterday that a number of other stables are on their way here now nowTrainer Trainer Bedwell has been giving Cudgel daily ex ¬ ercise in liis preparation for the Saratoga Handicap 011 opening day lie expresses himself well pleased with the condition of the great Broomstick colt and is conlident he will start the Saratoga campaign with a victory Among the recent arrivals art Willis Sharpe Kilmer Mr and Mrs Wilfrid Viau land S C Uildreth
