NOTED SPRINTER CHALMERS IS DEAD Louisville Ky July 20 Chalmers one of the greatest sprinters ever seen on a Kentucky track died at Churchill Downs Wednesday morning It is thought that his death was caused by car fever Chalmers was the property of Charles McCroan and had just been shipped to the local course from Latonia It was the intention of his owner to give tho great sprinter a rest prior to tho fall racing Chalmers was developed by Joe Hawkins and until this year had never started in a selling race While a sprinter pure and simple he was a Chalmers advent on the turf took place in 1914 when as a twoyearold he started In sixteen races of which ho won eight including the Harold Stakes and won for his owner 9533 He gave early evi ¬ dence of possessing a high turn of speed by running several races at threequarfers of a mile in 112 His best year was as a twoyearold although he did exceptionally well in 1910 as a fourryearold Throughout all his racing he displayed wonderful speed and gamoness but throequarters of a mile was his limit His pedigree and racing record WO follows 2 t n nWO Chalmers ch g 1912 by Peter Quince Lady LadyHope Hope Year Ago Sts 1st 2d 3d Unp Won 1914 2 10 8 2 1 5 9533 1915 3 9 2 4 1 2 1C22 1910 4 19 0 3 5 5 050 1917 5 10 1 2 4 3 1324 1918 C 3 1 0 1 1 500 Totals 5 57 18 11 12 1C 19487
