KING JOHN FIRST IN IRISH DERBY The Irish Dorliy of this year was run at The Cur ragh June 2i From time to time of recent years the value of this chief of Irish races has been so increased as to greatly advance its importance and it is now wall patronized by English as well as by Irish owners Its net value this year was 15250 so it can readily be seen that it was well worth the attention of any owner The nice was won by the chestnut colt King John by Roi Herodc Miranda He carried 124 pounds and won in a canter by eight lengths with Sari Bahr second and Navarre third four othors starting Skeets Martin was to have ridden the winner but it was his bad luck to fall sick on the eve of the race and the Irish jockey H Boasley was given the mount King John is an Irishbred colt but is trained ill England and is the property of Capt Giles Lodcr who sett him over to Ireland for the big race and was duly rewarded King John ran fourth in Gainsboroughs New Derby and is considered a good colt The mile and a half of the race was run in 240M A colt called Chi ¬ cago by Cylgad Lady Americus and ridden by tho star Jockey S Donoghuc was backed to win the race but ran unplaced
