KENTUCKY HORSES DO WELL Are Making a Highly Creditable Showing at Saratoga Few Opportunities for Sande and andLimsford Limsford J H Rosseters RossetersBreeding Breeding Plans By J It Tottery Totterya a X Y August 7 Considering tlieir relative strength as compared with the contingent representing the east it must be conceded that the horses from Kentucky have made a highly credit aisle showing in the racing which has taken place here to date Comparatively few of the western horses have been in action as yet but they have Ixon winning their share of the purses and perhaps more if their proportionate representation in the racing bu taken into consideration considerationEastern Eastern patrons of racing formed an unfavorable opinion of Kentucky horses as a result of the dis ¬ appointing showing of the few that raced at the Empire City meeting failing to take into account that they vcrc not really representative of the horses that had been figuring prominently in Ken ¬ tucky racing this year What has been taking place here lias changed the unfavorable first im ¬ pressions formed as to the calibre of western horses and they are noU receiving respectful considera ¬ tion For various reasons the western representa ¬ tion here this year is not as strong numerically as usual but it certainly is giving a good account of itself itselfLunsford Lunsford and Sande who had things pretty much their own way in Kentucky among the saddle bri ¬ gade have had few opportunities since the meeting opened to demonstrate their riding ability for the boutfit of eastern patrons of the sport Nearly all of the important stables have riders under con ¬ tract and boys without such connections have little chance to show their capabilities here Sande who rode with a fair degree of success at the Em ¬ pire City track came into the limelight for the first time when he scored with Jefferson Living ¬ stons Solid Rock at long odds on Saturday Luus ferd Aill have his chance when the horses of the E B McLean stable come into the racing action in earnest within the next few days daysTrainer Trainer George II Strate will ship the horses he has been racing in the east for J II Rossetcr back to the farm of tlieir owner in Sonoma County California at the close of the Saratoga meeting There are five yearlings at the farm the produce of English mares imported by Mr Rosscter that require attention in preparation for next years racing They are by approved English stallions their dams having been brought to this country while in foal foalFRIAR FRIAR ROCK TO HEAD STUD STUDThe The stallion Friar Kock and twentysix inarcs of choice breeding that Mr Rosseter recently pur ¬ chased from John E Madden will be shipped from Hamburg Place in Kentucky to the Russcter ranch in California as soon as the foals of all of the mares involved in the transaction shall have been weaned When they reach California Mr Itosseter will have a total of thirtyseven broodmares at Wickiup Hanch with which to carry on his breed ¬ ing operations Ueides the stallion Friar Hock Mr Itossctcr has the tried and true stallion Dis ¬ guise now twenty years old at Wickiup and has been using him up to this time for nicking with his iiniHirtetl mares Friar Itock for which John E Mad deii paid a fancy price after he had made a wonder ¬ ful record in racing as a threeyearold is de ¬ stined to supplant Disguise in future seasons as the leading stallion at Wickiup and will be given every opportunity for making good goodFred Fred Burlcw has three horses here and his colors will be shown in the near future His stable con ¬ sists of He Will a good horse in his day but now something of a cripple the speedy filly Thistle and the twoyearold Gold Lace which has not yet raced racedRoger Roger Minton has severed his connection with the stable of J K L IIoss and is now devoting his attention to the making of jockey Taplins en ¬ gagements gagementsHenry Henry A 1orter has given uy hope that his fast twoyearold High Time will stay three quarters in good company High Time has a sensational turn of early speed but fiveeighths appears to be about as far as he cares to maintain it Mr Porter is confident however that his colt Pride of India which has not yet faced the starting barrier will sjow himself to be Uilly Kellys superior if he can lie brought to the races in the same condition as before the mishap which lias temporarily shelved him with a bruised heel Mr Porter bases his belief upon knowledge of the comparative ability of Pride of India High Time and others of his twoyearolds twoyearoldsBilly Billy Oliver has iiot shown his colors at Sara ¬ toga yet but expects to be much in evidence later a when some of the selling platers are wearing
