Saratoga N Y August 12 The Seneca Stakes under veiling conditions with a guaranteed value of 2500 of which amount 1950 net went to the winner was this outstanding race from a mone ¬ tary iKiint featuring this afternoons card and re ¬ sulted in a big upset in the victory of Sweep Up II recently acquired by J K Skinker for a sum said to lie 1510 He won his purchase price and some over for his new owner Jyntee an overwhelming favorite following him to the finish with Him 1aradise in third place The winner took most kindly to the fast drying but soft track and collided with a fast beginning raced into a long lead at once and led Tor tlie entire distance of threequarters to win easing up Jyntee was ridden by the diminutive and inexperienced J Hell That youngster could not do the filly justice and she con ¬ tinuously sprawled and swerved during tlie stretch racing though she finished gamely and overhauled Blue Paradise iu the last eighth eighthBackers Backers of favorites experienced a rough time during the afternoon and their calculations went all awry Not a single choice excepting KohiNoor succeeding in landing a purse KohiXoors margin of victory was a small one and it was only in the last few strides that she succeeded in wearing Kama down which had in the earlier running threatened to make a runaway witli the purse but found the distance a trifle further than lie likes to travel at top speed Boxer ran a good race to land in third place placeWhile While the stake race absorbed the most interest still the mile nice which followed it was given much consideration oil account of the fairly good class ones that started II T AVilsons Corn Tassel was backed with confidence in it and he was apparently the best in the race but a mishap at the start resulted iu his defeat by Hollister 1 3 a close margin It was the first victory that the Macombcr stable had scored at the present meeting and it was a lucky one Hollister was al ¬ ways in the forward flight close in attendance 011 Tumbler Highland Lad and Tricky H with Corn Tass1 last having been caught in a jam at the start and relegated to the rear Hollister took the lead when threeeighths out and after rounding into the stretch appeared the easist kind of a winner but Corn Tassel loomed up suddenly and coming from far back with a cyclonic rush forced Hollister to a hard drive to win by a neck Lucky 15 ran a good race and witli a good rider would have been troublesome troublesomeFAULTY FAULTY RIDE BEATS VIVA AMERICA AMERICAThurbers Thurbers faulty riding was also in a measure esponsible of Viva America the favorite in the closing dash She was taken all over the track and in addition suffered from unnecessary Interference Tlie winner turned up in Irene on which Lunsfonl had the mount and it marked the first winner that this crack rider has piloted during the meeting His effort on Irene gave the easterners their first true line on his ability and he came in for much praise for his good riding of the filly fillyIn In the claiming race for twoyearolds at five and a half furlongs St Quentin turned up as the winner and his success was in a good measure aided by tlie fast sendoff he had which enabled him to go into a long lead at once and he won without any great effort from Plurenzi with Melancholia following The winner was entered for 710 and was claimed for contract did not expire until September 10 but the jockeys recent behavior anything but exemplary decided the trainer to dispense with his services The price naid for Lykes release to the Brighton
