EYELID QUEEN OF THREEYEAROLDS Her Easy Victory Over Enfilade in the Alabama Stakes Indicates Her Superiority Saratoga X Y August 12 When Eyelid beat Enfilade in the Alabama Stakes on Thursday she did it in such convincing fashion that the general opinon was that the result would have been the same had the two met at even weights instead of the sevenpound advantage that tlie winner was enjoying Therefore there is a disposition to con ¬ cede the threeyearold filly honors of the year to Eyelid which races in the colors of A L Aste her breeder breederEyelids Eyelids victory in the Alabama was all the more meritorious because of the fact that she got away last almost ten lengths in the rear Ensor who rode the Aste filly used good judgment He didnt rush her after the leaders Instead he took a snug hold on the reins and allowed her to race along iu a fast but even pace paceGoing Going around the first turn Enfilade the pace ¬ maker was a dozen lengths in front of Eyelid but this didnt rattle the little jockey He was con ¬ tent to make up the lost ground gradually and in the race down the long backstretcli he succeeded succeededJust Just before the bend was reached Ensor had Eye ¬ lid on the heels of the leaders and next to the rail The jockey was awaiting an opening But it didnt seem as though he would get it To run around the horses was another big handicap that he might not be able to overcome Eusor realized this and patiently waited in behind the leaders As the bend was reached Lyke guided Enfilade a trifle wide As he did so Ensor gave his mount free rein and l efore Lyke could realize it Eyelid had come through the opening and was at his mounts side That move earned Ensor much ap ¬ plause Fox a sixteenth of a mile Lyke did his mightiest to take the mil again but Ensor kept Eyelid moving along stride for stride with Enfilade Then Enfilade tired and as she did so Eyelid moved to the front and entered the home stretch thril lengths ahead of her opponents Down the filial straightaway Eyelid sped at a terrific pace and despite Eusors efforts to pull her up in the filial eighth she rushed to an easy victory
