lias attended the Rices in Maryland this fall Journeyed to Laurel Park today to witness the de ¬ cision of a program of seven races comparing fav ¬ orably with the best offered by the Saratoga Rac ¬ ing Association during its wonderful August meet ¬ ing at the Spa Big delegations from Philadelphia Washington Baltimore and surrounding cities came Iwith by train and motor car There was quite a distinct military tone to the days proceedings the Stars and Stripes flying proudly among tlue tolors of the other allied governments while hun ¬ dreds of officers and khakiclad soldiers were seen in all parts of the course together with a goodly number of officers of various allied countries Lib ¬ erty Bond sellers were everywhere and did a thriv ¬ ing business businessThe The main attraction of the day was the Baltimore Handicap and the presence of Cudgel and Omar Khayyam among the starters served to invest in it more than the usual interest manifested in ordi ¬ nary stake events When the mighty Omar Khayyam and the popular Cudgel galloped on the course for the rare the big crowd arose en massj and wildly cheered these two loud and long But imagine their surprise and consternation when sixteen platers of fair class engaged Thorn Bloom was the first to get into his stride and he quickly assumed a safe lead which lie easily maintained to the end Nigel the favor ¬ ite was second and
