IRISH ST LEGER WON BY DIONYSOS On Wednesday September IS the third and last of the series of Irish leading contests for three yearolds the St Leger ended in a victory for an English owned and trained threeyearold This was Lord DIAbirnons Dionysos a colt by Llan gibhy Donnetta and therefore halfbrother to that fine filly Diadem There was no question either of the result ever being in doubt as the New ¬ market colt won by the liberal margin of ten lengths from another English candidate in East Cheshire which he had beaten previously though not quite so easily in the Freekenhain Plate won by Buckthorn The way to victory was cleared somewhat by the absence of the Clarehaven colt London Pride which not only missed his St Leger engagement but a later one in the Turf Club Cup CupThe The triumph of Dionysos completed a memorable season for Newmarkettrained auimals in connec ¬ tion with the Irish chisf events The Derby it will bo remembered was won with great case by apt Giles Loders whitelegged King John which is a son of Roi Herode sire of The Tetrarch The Oaks later on was taken by another of the off ¬ spring of Roi Herode also a chestnut she Judea owned by Capt C Moore having two and a half lengths to spare of Doria and two others It is rather singular that while The Tetrarch takes after his sire in the matter of color these two Irish stake winners should both be chestnuts On the other hand all The Tetrarchs best juvenile winners are grays and herein lies a pretty problem for the students of coloration systems to solve
