SUGGESTS EXAMINATION OF TRAINERS New York November 30 At the Waldorf round table a few days ago the subject of competent train era of horses was brought up The fact that quite a number of men hold licenses as trainers who could not pass an examination is well known This it was asserted is responsible for some of the inconsistency iu the running of horses The system of granting li ¬ censes by qualification should be instituted said one of the crowd who is a practical horseman Men should be made to pass an examination before a license could be issued to them As it is now anybody can get a license if he can get some of his neighbors to sign an application In practically all professions men have to graduate and show a certain amount of knowledge before being granted a diploma This method should apply to applicants for a trainers license As it is now any barber can get a trainers license if he has friends enough to back him up It is a subject that might well be discussed lor the welfare of the sport
