TALE OF A DONKEY AND A PIKE PIKEThe The voracity of the pike is proverbial This is illustrated by a grim but unauthenticated story which suggests that the fish must have been a rela ¬ tive of that one which was the hero of Jardine s story of the missing butler whose watch and but ¬ tons were found many years afterward in a mon ¬ strous pike There seems to be a family connection at any rate between the stories storiesThe The main story comes from the Birmingham England Daily Mail and runs this way A1 few weeks ago while rambling through Packington Park he saw a fisherman whom he engaged in conversation The fisherman said that he knew a bit of history in connection with the pool which he proceeded to relate Some years ago the young family of Lord Aylesford had a donkey After some years of faithful service the animal was allowed to roam at will in the park but after a time was missed and forgotten A few years later a fisherman at the pool caught a large and aged pike He was so delighted with his capture that lie had it set up Upon opening the fish for this purpose it was found to contain besides other relics four slices which were shown to i eople at the hall and it is said they were quite satisfied that the shoes were those of an old donkey The donkeyThe story is partly corroborated by residents of the locality who declare that the pike in the pool frequently had savagely bitten the noses of animals which went there to drink
