SCOTCH BOYS 182 POUND FISH FISHBig Big Halibut Caught on Light Tackle from a Quay at Wick WickThere There appeared some mouths ago in several Eng ¬ lish paragraphA papers this paragraph A halibut weighing 182 pounds was hooked by a boy with a small line and tackle at Soutli Quay Wick Scotland A fish dealer purchased the fish for 51 51The The story was ridiculed on the ground that such H fisher and such tackle could not hold such a fish The English Anglers News sought the truth of the talc and got it from Alex Movratt a well known and reputable angler of the Wick district who wrote wroteIt It is quite a fact that this lad dirt hook a hali ¬ but The boy is 11 to 15 years of a e all vvas fishing from the Soutli Onay at Wick He was working with a line of about one pound weight for sixty fathoms and had a Xo 3 codhook on it He had previously been fishing with a small line for codling but had gone home and got the above line as he had seen the halibut He secured it with herring bait and it certainly weighed 182 pounds and fetched 51 But you arc quite right in saying that it was impossible for the bov to land the fish himself He got it along the Quay to some steps in the Quay wall and thereafter some fishermen assisted him in landing it The halibut was a fine sound conditionIt healthy lish in good condition It is a quite wellknown fact that at this season of the year halibut of about a similar size come in to the point of the South Quay and only aweek or so before a halibut of about a stone or two less was taken by another lad here but I think that the last caught fish by the small boy would constitute about a record for size being taken on a line
