BATTLE BETWEEN MAN AND SHARK HONOLULU II L December 10 Maul Aue of Waihee a fisherman seeking edible seaweed de ¬ cided he would have a swim beyond the breakers When over the reefs a shark made straight for him Aue had his dirklike knife in his malo but decided to Ticat the water with his hands in the hope of frightening the fish away but when the shark came in close and turned its body belly up Aue dived The shark passed over him The fish made a second rush Aue dived again and slashed the shark on the back On a third attack the shark ripped the skiit off Aues back but the fisherman slashed the fish again the water turning crimson Aue managed to make the beach where he fainted
