J. R. JEFFERY, TURF WRITER, DEAD HAVANA, Cuba, January 21. Friends of, James It. Jeffery, the well-known turf correspondent, were shocked this morning to learnof his death last night at a local hospital. Mr.Jef fer.v arju rived here quite ill after a siege of influenza, which confined him at ills home at Covington, Ky., for several weeks. The body will be shipped to Gloucester, Mass., for interment. J. It Jeffery was for several years connected with Dally Hating Form as manager-editor, first at Chicago and later at Buffalo. Since leaving Dally Racing Form Mr. Jeffery has contributed to this paper at different times special turf articles of interest. Only last week we printed his last letter from Cuba, touching on the subject of J.he first two-year-old race at Oriental Park this year. None here knew of his illness and his sudden deatli certainly comes as a shock to all who knew him.
