DAUGHTER OF GREAT COLIN i Wins First Two-Year-OId Race of Year at Oriental Park. - -- i. Big Crowd Out to See Baby Racers Driving Finishes Feature the Sport. HAVANA. Cuba, January 21. To -enor A. H. Diaz goes the honor of owning the first two-year-old winner at Oriental Park this year. Just Fancy, a daughter of the great Colin Idle Fancy, was the one to carry the Diaz colors to victor before an attendance of large proportions. The weather was of the kind that appeals to the lover of outdoor sport, with track conditions greatly improved and large fields furnishing the contention. It has lcen some time since more interesting racing was witnessed, the finishes in all six of the races being of the driving order. The race for two-year-olds, the first this year in these parts, was the magnet vhicli drew out the big crowd. A dozen baby racers started in this race and half of them fonghtall through the last eighth. Senor Diazs Just Fancy was the winner by a head from Dr. Hall. Ford was third and all were heads apart. All of them had a chance right up to the end. Dr. Hall was perhaps the best of the band. He began from tiie extreme outside, raced by himself the entire way and was going fastest at the finish. The winner is a big, rangy filly. Dr. Hall is a compact, racy-looking youngster and Ford, which finished third, is a brother of Springboard and Backboard. Only a nose separated Mike Dixon and Miss Ivan at the end of the second race, Oie former setting the judges eye in tho -final strides. He was the longest priced- winner of tiie dayv Five of the twelve starters in the third race fought out a bitterly contested stretch struggle, witli Phil Ungar winning a half length to the good from George Duncan, which had but a head advantage over Colors.. Another hot finisli came in the following race, Bunice just outlasting Kernan. while in the fiftii race High Tide dis-wsed of Galaway in the last quarter to win by a length. The final race resulted in a sensational victory for Austral, which, after running in the rear to the stretch, closed up with a remarkable fast rush and got up to win drawing clear. George W. Loft, ex-ccngres.sman of the Fifth District, New York, arrived from the States yesterday. Mr. Loft was accompanied by his family and is here for a protracted stay. He has a dozen horses at Oriental Park in charge of Max Hirsch. Among other arrivals were J. J. Russell, the well-known business man of Cincinnati, also Mrs. Stephen F. Austin and son. Mr. Austin, a former superintendent for the Commercial Cable Company in New York City, is here for an extended stay. Jockey J. Dreyer has declined an offer to ride for the Beacli Stable. He goes from here to New York with F. D. Weir. Mr. Weir will probablv dispose of all but two or three of the horses which lie brought to Cuba, and will replenish his stable-during the early Maryland meeting.
