t : f DELICO THE STAR OF THE STABLE OF J. S. HAWKINS IN THE RACING CAMPAIGN OF LAST YEAR I I 4- J. S. Hawkins raced eight horses in 1918 and did quite well with them as compared witli 1917, when his stable earnings amounted to only ,098. The two-year-old filly Delico was the star of his stable, one that any owner might take joy in possessing. Her last race of the year was in the important Queen City Handicap at Latonia, November 21. S. C. Hildreth had brought the good Tracery colt Cirrus west to win that race and public expectationwas that he would do so. So he would had not Delico been in the way. Coining from behind and ruw!iiTS the mile of the race in 1:44 over a heavy track, she beat him by a length and handed her owner the neat sum of ,700. She is a good filly and in 1919 should play an important part in stake races for her age and sex. The two-year-old colt Huntermann proved himself to be at least useful and was second to Delico in money won. The Sain filly Clara Martin was the only other inmate of- the stable which won as much as ,000, and the stable record for the year was: Horse Col, and Sex. A. Pedigree. 1st. 2d. 3d. Won.
