CURRENT NOTES OF THE TURF James Rutler has announced that 0,000 will be spent improving the Empire City track. The War Department has recently sold 23.622 head of surplus war horses at an average of 22.95. Steeplechase Jockey T. ORrlen, after having served in the Rrltish army during the war, is back again in this country and anxious to resume riding. Capt. J. B. Davis expects to devote more time to his favorite sport of steeplechaslng this year than was possible In 1918, when he was in the service of Uncle Sam. A portion of the fence of the Empire City track was blown down during a recent windstorm. The damage was small. Many improvements will bo made at the Yonkers course during the spring and all will be completed In time for the meeting there In July.
