TURF NOTES FROM LANDS ABROAD George Child Villiers the sixth Earl of Jersey was one of the most famous sportsmen of his time He owned the wonderful mare Cobweb which won for him the One Thousand Guineas and the Oaks and at the stud became the dam of Bay Middleton and Clementina winner of the One Thousiind Lord Jersey won the Derby three times with the aid of Middleton Mameluke and Bay Middleton MiddletonSome Some remarkably high prices for that country were recently given for thoroughbred yearlings at a sale at Victot in Italy Seventeen products pro ¬ duced 35000 or an average of over 2000 The chief prices were given for the stock of Nimbus and M R Padana paid 85800 for Ex a colt dam Biella The average for the yearlings of this sire was 3170 Ramrod Elf and Saint Marcet were the other stallions represented in the sale list
