KIKU A CANDIDATE FOR OAKS HONORS Has Wintered Well in Care of Her Owner and Has Good Credentials in Racing LEXINGTON Ky March 23 W L Lewis has in his stable at the Kentucky Association course two daughters and a granddaughter of the good mare Silk Maid halfsister to Ivan the Terrible A D Gibson and Monsieur Beancaire by Esher Kate Pelletier by RantUre The daughters are tlie fouryearold brown filly Silk Lady by Ormon dale and tliq threeyearold brown filly Kiku by Sweep The granddaughter is tlie threeyearold bay filly Lady Fair Play by Fair Piny Crystal Maid He has in Cuba another granddaughter the fouryearold bay filly Crystiil Day by Peep o Day Crystal Maid which was under lease to Jake Holtman for tlie season and now is for sale Tlie other three are to be raced in Kentucky this year Silk Lady was cut down on the opening day of the meeting here last fall aiid has not raced since but she is galloping soundly again and should be ready for the spring1 meeting at the local track Kiku started only twice last year both races being at Latouia She was third and then won She is eligible to the Ashland Oaks as is also Lady Fair Play which started twice last year but did not win winAll All of the horses in the Lewis stable last spring wert sick and they did not get completely over it until well into the autumn This year however they are in good health Three twoyearold fillies comprise the remainder of the string One is a chestnut daughter of Dick Finnell Ethel IX a good race mare by Box Domino Noire This is Ethel DM second foal her first being Little D Another chestnut filly is a granddaughter of the great mare Yorkville Belle her sire being Elkhom and her dam Iroquois Belly Tlie third twoyear old is a brown daughter of Golden Maxim dam a Peep oDay mare She is the property of a gentleman who resides In Louisville Silk Maid is not in foal this year Her last produce is Kiku She has been an irregular breeder but a success as a matron for tlie five she has thrown have won She is badly crippled having never recovered from her fall at Chicago
