MATT WINNS CLASSIC PLAN Three Derbys for Kentucky with withNew New One at Lexington Bonuses for Victories in These TheseEaces Eaces Would Net Winner WinnerGreat Great Sum XEW YORK X Y March 20 Colonel Matt Winn is considering a plan to link up stake prizes in Kentucky wherebv a great horse can he made nime valuable and is commented upon favorably by horsemen who were seen today His idea of in ¬ creasing values according to the merit of a horse is building up the r ort to a pinaele of complete ¬ ness tliat may create not only national but inter ¬ national interest interestHe He is doing even better than the racing folk in England the founder of regulated racing In that fountrv it is an honor to win any of the classics but no inducement of a financial or special prize nature lias yet been offered for a horse that wins two classicsTo or three of the five classics To win tle Epsom Derby and the Doncaster St Leger is a great equine feat and few horses have achieved this distinction To win the Cesarewitch and Cambridgeshire is also a Teat rarely accom ¬ plished Yet the American horse Foxhall proved capable in 18S1 Colonel Winn intends to create inducements for one horse to win the two Derbys at Louisville and Latonia and further inducements if the same horse wins the future Lexington Ken ¬ tucky and Latonia Derbys It is the present inten ¬ tion of Col Vinn to substitute a real Derby with u greatly increased valuation for the Derby prelim ¬ inary at Lexington ami to increase the values of the Kentucky and Latonia Derbys to 25000 each The Iexiiijjtoir Derby is to have 10000 added and ils distance is to be one mile and oneeighth Col oneeighthCol Winn contemplates giving a bonus of 5000 if the same horse wins the Lexington and Kentucky features 5000 bonus if the same horse wins the Kentucky and Latonia Derbys and 15000 over and above all money added if the same horse either colt or filly wins all three This sum added t the money accruing from the stakes will enable one horse to earn something like 90000 for the three races racesIt It is within the bounds of possibilities for one horse to achieve such distinction especially if one really great horse shows up some one year when there is a dearth of contention contentionIt It is probable also that in the fall season Manager Vinn will arrange for some weightforage races in Kentucky which will bring out the best per ¬ formers in the conntrv in all classes Laurel too may arrange for similar events if the racing ma ¬ terial on hand warrants it itWhat What a wonderful innovation it would be if all the associations in this country would subscribe for a Xntionai Cup every year to be presented to the owner of the best threeyearold colt or filly awarded from a moneywinning standpoint was suggested ti the popular manager Such a sub ¬ ject might receive consideration answered Mr Winn It would be a much coveted prize
