MORE PRAISE FOR A PROMISING FILLY Trainer Thomas Healey Predicts Terentia Is Destined to Be Another Beldame or Artful BALTIMORE Mil April 22 It takes a Beldame or an Artful to beat high class colts in great three yearold events like the 25000 Preakness Stakes the outstanding feature of the splendid program the Maryland Jockey Club has announced for the im ¬ pending meeting at Pimlico May 1 to 17 inclusive but Thomas Healey and other trainers just down from Belmont Park believe that there comes nearly being such a filly at the Westchester Associations course this spring The racer they have in mind is Terentia a daughter of Cicero and Queenlet brought from England by W It Con proprietor of the Slioslione Stud of Wyoming Terentia bore the silks of Mr Cot last year and siie is being trained for the inaugural running of both the Pimlico Oaks and the Preakness by William Karrick her developer developerTrainer Trainer Thomas Healey who has good Preakness prospects of his own in Richard T Wilsons home ¬ bred Olambala colts Hannibal and Thunderstorm becomes enthusiastic when he talks of Terentia TerentiaI I havent he said at Havre de Grace yester ¬ day seen such a filly as Terentia since Beldame wus a threeyearold It would not surprise me in the least if she developed into a Beldame or an Artful She is a Kiliand giantess weighing up ¬ ward of 1150 pounds She is deep through the heart shortbacked and splendidly coupled Also she has the bone of a great stallion and there has never been so much as a pimple on one of her legs She looks indeed like a fiveyearold horse and she trains as soberly as Hennis or Advance Guard trained trainedWilliam William Karrick has trained this filly with rare skill and judgment this year and when he brings her to Pimlico she will be ready for the colors She is my choice for the Pimlico Oaks notwithstanding the Oaks will bring to the post as good a band of threeyearold fillies as we have seen in years and if she races as I am confident she will race I have a notion that she will be hard to beat in the Preakncss PreakncssHAS HAS KENTUCKY ENGAGEMENTS ENGAGEMENTSKarrick Karrick lias named Terentia for certain stakes to be decided in Kentucky but I understand that it is his intention to nice the Coe and Knapp horses in Maryland He will not start anything ahead of the Piinlico meeting however Elfin Queen the daughter of Disguise and Sprite which raced so brilliantly last spring at Belmont Park and Jamaica has wintered splendidly and is training smoothly She is going to race well But I have no idea that she will show as much as Terentia TerentiaKdrricks Kdrricks best colt if looks count is Sweep On a son of Sweep and Yodler and a halfbrother of Yodeliug and Genevieve B which began life under the name of Shoe Black Sweep On is the show horse of Belmont Park If he has improved in speed as much as he lias in looks since Karrick laid him bv last November he is going to make one of the great threeyearolds of the year yearI I wish to go on record now though as saying that Terentia and not Sweep On is my choice of the threeyearolds of the Coe and Knapp stables I would trade a whole stableful of horses for Terentia TerentiaHealey Healey is not without hope that Hannibal and Thunderstorm will do well in the Preakness Han ¬ nibal winner last year of the Saratoga Special and Keene Memorial Stakes has filled out notably Thunderstorm always a better looker than Hanni ¬ bal has muscled up handsomely
